Incoming steel and aluminum taxes on Canadian imports will be doubled from 25% to 50%, according to US President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday. He claimed the tariffs would go into effect “tomorrow morning.”
Following the imposition of an electricity fee on three US states by the Canadian province of Ontario, Trump issued a warning that more tariffs would “permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada.” Additionally, he resurrected threats that the nation would turn into “our cherished Fifty First State.”
