A week-long ‘Annual Art Exhibition’ of Dhaka University’s Oriental Art Department began today at the Zainul Gallery of Fine Arts Faculty of the university.
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof. Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the programme as the chief guest and distributed prizes and certificates among the eight students in recognition of their outstanding artworks.
A total of 84 selected artworks of 56 students have been put on display at the exhibition which will remain open for all from 11 am to 8pm everyday till November 30, said a press release here.
The winners are–Abhishek Dutta Tamal, Bappi Pal (Artist Shawkat Uzzaman Memorial Award), Anamika Pal (Artist Aminul Islam Memorial Award), Mst. Miskatul Jannat (Artist Rashid Chowdhury Memorial Award), Mst. Nazifa Yasmin (Artist Shafiqul Amin Memorial Award), Tasmia Nawsaba Barkatullah, Pragati Chakma and Nishat Tasnim Mithila.
“The exhibition will play a pivotal role in encouraging young artists and expanding the artworks across the country,” the VC stated, emphasising the significance of continuing such events to recognise student artwork.
The Oriental Art Department Chairperson, Dr. Sushanta Kumar Adhikary, chaired the opening ceremony, which was also attended by the dean of the fine arts department, Dr. Azharul Islam Sheikh; honorary professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar; emeritus professor Md. Abul Hashem Khan; and convener of the exhibition committee, Prof. Md. Abdul Aziz.
