Tomorrow, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an adviser for water resources, environment, and climate change affairs, will travel to Jashore’s submerged Bhabodah area to personally witness the hardships and issues faced by the locals.
According to sources from the Water Development Board (WDB) and the Water Resources Ministry, the consultant would visit the Amdanga Khal in Avaynagar upazila immediately to observe the current state of the cannel.
She will inspect the cannel’s beginning and ending locations at the Bhairab River with senior WDB officials and Water Resources Secretary Md. Nazmul Ahsan.
The government has taken a project with the financial assistance from the World Bank to re-excavate the cannel to release the stagnant water of the area to the Bhairob River, sources added.
The adviser would later visit the Bhabodah sluice gates to assess the water logging issue and the ministry’s efforts to clear the large submerged regions of stagnant water.
Water logging has left more than 500 villages in four Jashore upazilas stranded, with over nine lakh people’s homes submerged.
Water logging is seriously damaging more than 75,000 hectares of agricultural land, thousands of fish cages, several hundred educational institutions, and pucca, semi-pucca, and kancha roads.
In order to find a solution, the consultant will speak with stakeholders and impacted individuals at the Amdanda and Bhabodah points, according to concerned WDB officials.
Later, in the afternoon, she will attend a view-exchange gathering at Jashore Circuit House on the same topics.
