The largest religious celebration for the Hindu community in Bangalee, Durga Puja, is a five-day event that is observed with traditional zeal and revelry in every region of the nation.
Legend has it that the Goddess Durga, along with her four children, Ganesha, Kartikeya, Lakshami, and Saraswati, descends on earth on the first day of the five-day celebration, Maha Shashti. On Moha Shashti, the exquisite idols of Maa Durga and other deities were unveiled for public viewing.
The arrival of Goddess Durga was welcomed by the devotees with much fanfare, amidst the beats of dhak (Drum).
According to the BSS Netrakona correspondent, 465 mandaps in the district are celebrating Durga Puja. For the puja, the government has set aside more than 232 metric tons of rice and Tk 5.50 lakhs as special funding.
The festival will be celebrated peacefully and with security thanks to the police’s impenetrable security measures.
Senior government representatives paid visits to various Puja Mondops and greeted leaders and devotees of the Puja Udjapon Parishad.
