Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid made new cabinet secretary

Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid has been named cabinet secretary by the government, with a contract in place.
His joining day, October 14, will be the start of his two-year service count.

Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid was appointed on a contract by the Ministry of Public Administration, which was announced in a gazette notice signed by senior assistant secretary Nilufa Yesmin today.

The notification stated that Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid had been appointed on a two-year contract starting on October 14 or the day of joining, subject to his resignation from all other professional affiliations or organizations, including government, semi-government, and commercial offices/organizations.

The announcement in the gazette stated that other requirements for the appointment will be decided upon by agreement and that the order was issued based on public interest.

Prior to this, on August 17, 2024, the government named retired additional secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid as the secretary for the Secondary and Higher Education Division, effective on a two-year term.

Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid will succeed Mahbub Hossain, who began serving as the nation’s 25th cabinet secretary on January 3, 2023.

In the Satkhira district, Dr. Rashid was born into a Muslim household.
