MrBeast named in California lawsuit over ‘Beast Games’ show

A lawsuit has identified YouTuber MrBeast and claims that viewers of his $5 million prize game show were taken advantage of.

Participants in what is being referred to be the largest live game show in the world claim they experienced sexual harassment and unjust treatment.

Documents submitted on Monday to a Los Angeles court claim that participants were not provided adequate pay, rest periods, or lunch breaks.

In the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court against Amazon Alternative LLC and MRB2024 LLC, Jimmy Donaldson’s (MrBeast) production firm, the plaintiffs are only identified as participants 1 through 5.

The lawsuit requests that all unpaid wages be paid, that the alleged labor activities be prohibited, and that the lawsuit be recognized as a class-action case.

“Defendant production companies and Amazon shamelessly exploited the labor of… people who served as contestants on the forthcoming $100 million MrBeast-Amazon production ‘Beast Games,’ which Amazon promotes as the world’s largest live game show with the biggest single prize in the history of television,” the suit states.

According to the lawsuit, the show’s entertainment value “arises directly from the physical and emotional labor of the contestants who compete under pressure-cooker conditions for life-changing prize money, with one person purportedly winning $5 million in the end.”

MrBeast did not immediately respond to an AFP query. Amazon did not respond to requests for comment.

At over 300 million subscribers, MrBeast is one of the most successful YouTubers of all time.

His creations include challenges and competitions with occasionally substantial awards for winners.

As well as an extensive online presence, he has also founded philanthropic ventures.

In 2023, Time magazine named him one of the world’s most influential people.

In the same year, Forbes put his net worth at around half a billion dollars.
