The Bangladesh cricket team was given a welcome at Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’ office in Tejgaon today, following their 2-0 Test series triumph against Pakistan in August and September of 2024.
The Chief Advisor greeted the cricket players at the reception, describing their triumph in Pakistan as historic and expressing the pride of the entire country in their accomplishment.
“I spoke to the captain after the victory but I was eagerly waiting to meet you all personally and congratulate you on behalf of the nation,” he said while addressing the players.
Prof Yunus reminded the players of the power of sports in uniting a nation and recalled his recent engagement in the Paris Olympics where he acted as an advisor and ambassador.
The Chief Adviser disclosed that he has received an invitation from Italy to participate in a comparable capacity in Milano Cortina at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of the national cricket team, expressed gratitude to Prof. Yunus for having hosted a reception for them at his office and stated his remarks will inspire them to succeed even more.
“Every player is happy to come here. It will really inspire us,” he said.
According to Shanto, the players’ and coaches’ dedication was essential to their success in Pakistan.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ adviser, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, praised the players for their success at a trying period.
Among those in attendance on the event were the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Faruque Ahmed, its director, Najmul Abedin Fahim, and its chief executive officer, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury.
