Authorities stated that eight people were buried when a portion of a hotel in western Germany collapsed late on Tuesday, killing one, and that rescuers were still working to extricate the survivors on Wednesday.
Around 11:00 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Tuesday, a floor of the hotel in Kroev, a town about 110 kilometers (68 miles) west of Frankfurt, collapsed for unclear reasons, according to a statement from the police.
Five of the 14 individuals inside at the time were able to escape.
Firefighters had made contact with a few of the eight individuals who were stranded, and according to authorities, “some were seriously injured”.
About 250 search and rescue personnel were on the scene, and nearby homes were evacuated.
