Sonakshi expresses gratitude to Bhansali for casting her in Heeramandi

Prior to Sanjay Leela Bhansali casting her as Fareedan in his first online series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, the Bollywood star Sonakshi Sinha revealed that ‘nobody’ took her seriously. She also asked whether an actor may “play the girl-next-door, sweet girlfriend, sweet wife” in an interview with Bollywood Bubble.

“I am so happy that somebody visualized me, Sanjay sir saw me in a role like that,” Sonakshi Sinha remarked. I sincerely appreciate his help. Additionally, I have stated ever since that I would like to portray a bad, evil, or crazy character.”

She added, “Nobody took me seriously until he cast me in Fareedan’s role, so I am truly grateful to him. Because, as an actor, it’s so nice to take up a challenge like that and do something different. Till when will you play the girl-next-door, sweet girlfriend, sweet wife? So it was just so much fun for me to play a role like that.”

Additionally starring in Heeramandi were Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Sharmin Sehgal, Adhyayan Suman, and Adhyayan Suman. The program delves into the cultural dynamics of Heera Mandi while examining the lives of courtesans and their patrons against the backdrop of India’s war for independence in the 1940s. Netflix has been offering the show for streaming since May 1.

Sonakshi most recently starred with Riteish Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem in the film Kakuda. Storyline-wise, it centers on Sunny (Saqib), a less-educated man, who falls in love with Indira (Sonakshi). Resolved to stay together, they are married and relocate to Ratodi, where they are cursed by ‘Kakuda’.

On their wedding night, at precisely 7:15 p.m., Sunny neglects to open Kakuda’s smaller door, allowing the evil ghost to enter and punish the man of the house by giving them a growing hump on their back that lasts until their death on the thirteenth day.

Sunny’s life is in danger, so Indira turns to Riteish’s quirky ghost hunter Victor for assistance. They set out on a strangely entertaining and eerie adventure together to unravel the mystery of Kakuda. On July 12, the Aditya Sarpotdar-directed film premiered on ZEE5.
