Five die as a rope of launch snapped at Sadarghat

On the eve of Eid, on Thursday afternoon, the launch rope at Sadarghat in Dhaka broke, killing five people—including a lady and a kid.

Prothom Alo received confirmation from Naval Police Superintendent of Crime and Operations Ashiq Saeed regarding the five fatalities.

Prothom Alo was previously informed by the fire department that two launches, MV Tashrif-4 and MV Pubali-1, were rope-tied to the No. 11 pontoon at Sadarghat. Just before three o’clock in the evening, the MV Tashrif-4’s rope broke, severely injuring five passengers as they boarded the launch while another launch, Farhan, attempted to anchor between the two launches.

According to Ashiq Saeed, the injured were saved in serious condition and taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital, where the doctors pronounced them dead.

He continued, “The incident will be looked into, and those who caused this death will be held accountable.”
