WFP, UN Women country representatives call on FM

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud was visited today by Country Representatives of UN Women, Gitanjali Singh, and the World Food Programme (WFP), Domenico Scalpelli.

The foreign minister talked about UN collaboration on food management and women’s development in Bangladesh during the two separate sessions.

Hasan sent an invitation to the World Food Programme representative to conduct a seminar and motivational programs aimed at urging individuals to consume domestic crops and food, as well as raising public awareness.

Additionally, he stated that Bangladesh, which has the highest population density and the lowest per capita land in the world, cannot continue to sustain food security and self-sufficiency in food grains unless it makes the most use of its arable land.

The minister advised WFP to take innovative measures to avoid the loss of arable land.

WFP Country Representative Domenico Scalpelli said he would give utmost importance to the issues.
He presented to the minister the future plans of his organisationtion’s food programme at the school level and for the Rohingyas.

The foreign minister praised the school feeding program that has been running since 2011 and later WFP’s food aid program for the Rohingya.

The foreign minister emphasized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s unwavering commitment to gender equality and the accomplishments of her government in empowering women during the meeting with the UN Women Country Representative.

He also emphasized Bangladesh’s outstanding achievements in advancing women’s political and administrative rights.

The minister commended UN Women for being a reliable ally on this path of development.

Gitanjali Singh, the UN Women Country Representative for Bangladesh, praised the government for carrying out its resolute pledge and promised to enhance UN Women’s partnership with Bangladesh.

The envoy apprised the minister of foreign affairs on the arrangements for commemorating the ‘Beijing Declaration”s 30th anniversary and the historic Resolution 1325’s silver jubilee in 2025.
