Japanese yen hits 16-year low against euro

On Wednesday, the Bank of Japan signaled that monetary policy would stay lax even after exiting its negative interest rate environment, which caused the Japanese yen to drop to a 16-year low versus the euro.

The euro touched its lowest level since 2008 at 164.48 per euro, as traders were prevented from focusing on Japan by the continued disparity between the rates of the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan.
