Bangabandhu’s 104th birth anniversary is being celebrated

Today, on National Children’s Day (2024), the country is appropriately commemorating the 104th anniversary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation.

On this day in 1920, a well-respected Muslim family in Tungipara village of Gopalganj sub-division, now district, gave birth to Bangabandhu, the dynamic leader of the Bangalee country, the architect of independent Bangladesh, and the greatest Bangalee of all time.

He was the third child of Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and Saira Khatun, who had two sons and four daughters.

The nation is celebrating the day through extensive programmes with fanfare and gaiety.

Bangladesh missions abroad have also chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day.

In observance of the day, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages yesterday afternoon paying glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The day is a public holiday.

The national flag is flown atop all buildings belonging to the government, semi-government, autonomous, and private organizations, as well as educational institutions and Bangladeshi embassies overseas, to commemorate the birth anniversary and National Children’s Day.

To commemorate the anniversary, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has organized elaborate programs.

At Bangabandhu’s tomb in Tungipara, Gopalganj, President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay wreaths in honor of the Father of the Nation.

The Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city’s Dhanmondi-32 will have wreaths placed in front of the portrait of the Father of the Nation by several organizations, including the Awami League.

A discussion will also be held at Tungipara today. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will join it as the chief guest.

The prime minister, as well, will provide Tk 5,20,000 among the 104 brilliant students in Gopalganj district, marking the Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary.

Apart from this, various programs will be held throughout the day in Tungipara and elsewhere across the country.

Numerous political, social, and cultural groups have also created intricate programs to commemorate the day.

Special shows reflecting the importance of the day in Bangalees’ lives are being aired on Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television, and other private TV and radio channels.

In honor of National Children’s Day today and the 104th birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, Awami League (AL) has created extravagant programs.

The national and party flags are raised in honor of the occasion at 6:30 a.m. today at the Bangabandhu Bhaban in Dhanmondi, the party headquarters, and its other offices around the nation.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait at Bangabandhu Museum, the historic house of Dhanmondi road no. 32.

Later, party leaders led by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay their respects at the grave of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 10 am.

They will participate in milad and dua mahfil.

On the occasion, prayers will be offered and milad mahfil will be held in all mosques across the country including Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Zohr prayers and all places of worship as part of the nationwide special prayer programme.

Additionally, the Hindu community will hold a prayer meeting at the Dhakeshwari Temple at 11.30am, and special prayers will be performed at Sabujbagh Dharmarajika Buddhist Maha Bihar at 10am.

The Buddhist community will hold separate prayers at the International Buddhist Bihar, located in the Merul Badda district of the city, at 6 p.m., and the Christian community will hold prayers at Mirpur Baptist Church (3/7 at Senpara, Pawarta, Mirpur-10) at 6 p.m.

In addition, the party will host a debate on Monday at the Tejgaon office of the Dhaka District Awami League. Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister and president of AL, will preside over the event.

AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has requested the countrymen, party leaders and workers to participate in all programmes to celebrate the day with due dignity.
