Mahmud seeks Belarus’s support in making Bangladesh EEU observer

In order to sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) and to become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, requested Belarus’ assistance today.

He made the appeal during a visit from Belarus’s deputy foreign minister, Evgeny Shestakov, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to a press statement from the foreign ministry.

The foreign minister of Bangladesh also encouraged Belarusian investors to fund projects in Bangladesh’s high-tech parks, special economic zones, and economic zones at the meeting.

He thanked Belarusian people for their valuable support during Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971 as a part of the then USSR. Belarus Deputy Foreign Minister invited Mahmud to visit Belarus.

Both parties expressed pleasure with the state of their bilateral relations at the moment and expressed optimism that they will continue to grow and develop in the days ahead.

The meeting covered every significant facet of the bilateral relations between Belarus and Bangladesh, including trade and investment, collaboration in agriculture, education, and the military, cooperation in science and technology, and cooperation in legal matters.

Mahmud further asked Belarus to back UN and other international organizations’ efforts to bring the forcefully displaced Rohingyas from Bangladesh back to their motherland, Myanmar.
