Mominul Haque’s service was confirmed by title contender Rangpur Riders at the midpoint of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
In fact, Rangpur made use of the BPL’s draft-based player recruitment policy, which allows teams to add players at any point throughout the competition.
Getting Mominul on board is a good idea if you need a top order batsman who can finish an innings.
Rangpur’s top order looked weakened after the departure of Babar Azam who not only opened the innings, but also gave the side stability by his quality batting on slow wicket.
Brandon King and Rony Talukdar so far partnered with former Pakistan captain Babar in opening the innings. Rony of late hit back to form but King’s form is still worrisome.
Mominul played the last BPL for Comilla Victorians in 2021-2022. He however played just four matches in that edition but there was no taker for him in the last season.
Not a single organization shown interest in him this season either. However, Rangpur eventually accepted his services, ensuring that he wouldn’t be ignored in the BPL for the next two seasons.
The franchise’s lack of enthusiasm in hiring him for the nation’s premier T20 event can be attributed primarily to his Test specialist status.
Mominul is still the 16th best run scorer in the BPL despite not being a regular; in 82 matches, he has scored 1364 runs in 71 innings. Although his strike rate of 107.48 is low by T20 standards, it appears very good when compared to other Bangladeshi batters’ strike rates.
