Israel orders more evacuations of Gaza’s main southern city: UN

According to the UN, Israel ordered the widespread evacuation of Gaza’s largest southern metropolis on Wednesday.

Israel has provided maps, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), that depict additional locations that make up roughly 20 percent of the Khan Yunis city that have been designated for evacuation.
According to OCHA, the area was home to more than 110,000 people before to the start of the battle.

It further stated that more than 140,000 internally displaced people were sheltered in 32 shelters in the area, the great majority of whom had already been displaced from the north.

The Israeli army said Wednesday that “ground, aerial and naval operations were carried out on dozens of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure” on military command and control centres in Khan Yunis.

The Islamist organization launched a deadly attack on southern Israel on October 7 that resulted in the deaths of about 1,140 people, according to an AFP count based on the most recent official Israeli data. This strike marked the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.

According to the Hamas administration, Israel’s subsequent military operation in Gaza has killed at least 20,000 Palestinians so far, the bulk of whom being women and children.
