Rain washes out WTA Finals semi-final

The world number one Aryna Sabalenka and her opponent Iga Swiatek’s WTA Finals semi-final washed out on Saturday due to torrential rain, the WTA reported.

After just three games of the opening set, the Cancun match was called off, with Swiatek, a second seed from Poland, leading 2-1.

When the semi-final would resume on Sunday was not immediately known.

The match winner advances to the end-of-season championship final to face Jessica Pegula.

Pegula defeated US Open winner Coco Gauff in straight sets earlier on Saturday to move on to the championship match.
