TCB to start selling onion from tomorrow at Tk 35 per kg

The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) family card holders in the greater Dhaka area will be able to purchase onions starting tomorrow for 35 Taka per kilogram (kg).

According to a TCB press release, the company will begin selling onions to family card holders in the Dhaka metropolitan region in stages based on the lessons learned from the previous several years and also taking into account the vital good’s lean season.

However, this operation will continue only if imported onion consignments arrive; at any given time, a consumer may only purchase up to 2 kg of onions.

According to the press release, out of the one million TCB family card users nationwide, those in the Dhaka metropolitan area would only be able to purchase a maximum of 2 kg of onions each month at a discounted price.

According to TCB information officer Md. Humayun Kabir, depending to the availability of imported onion, similar onion selling operations will be gradually expanded to other parts of the country beyond the Dhaka metropolitan area.

The typical purchases made by TCB card members include sugar, soybean oil, lentils, and occasionally rice.
