Bangladesh makes a bad start in AFC Women’s Asian Cup

The Bangladesh women’s football team struggled to get going in their round two match in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 Qualifiers on Wednesday night in Hanoi, losing to the host nation Vietnam by a score of 0–2.

The Bangladesh women’s squad, captained by Ruma Akhter, fell behind early on, 1-0.

Host nation Vietnam took the lead through captain Thao Nguyen in the 41st minute (1-0), and striker Thanh Hieu added a second goal (2-0) to wrap up the victory.

On Wednesday afternoon at the same location, Australia defeated the Philippines by a score of 6-2 after coming from behind.

The Bangladeshi team was grouped with the Philippines, Vietnam, and stronger Australia in Group B of the Asian young women’s football competition.

Bangladesh will play the Philippines on Friday, September 22 at 4 p.m., and stronger Australia on Sunday, September 24 at 4 p.m., both at the same location.
