After her team defeated England 1-0 in the Women’s World Cup final, Spain’s Aitana Bonmati was named the tournament’s Golden Ball winner on Sunday.
The adaptable 25-year-old Barcelona player had an outstanding tournament, participating in every match and serving as a lynchpin for Jorge Vilda’s team.
“I don’t have the words. I am so proud, we had a great tournament,” Bonmati told the BBC.
With five goals, Japan’s Hinata Miyazawa won the Golden Boot as the competition’s top scorer.
The Golden Glove went to England’s incredibly talented goalkeeper Mary Earps, who stopped a penalty in the final on Sunday. Salma Paralluelo, a 16-year-old Spanish striker, earned the award for best young player.
Spain won the World Cup for the first time after defeating England.
