US provides $345 worth of military aid to Taiwan

According to a statement released by US President Joe Biden on Friday, Washington pays $345 million in military assistance to Taiwan.

“By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, […] I hereby delegate to the Secretary of State […] to direct the drawdown of up to $345 million in defense articles and services of the Department of Defense, and military education and training, to provide assistance to Taiwan,” the statement reads.

According to ABC, who cited its sources, the US Defense Department reserves will give the military assistance. Man-portable air defense systems, missiles, and technology for reconnaissance and observation will all be included in the package.

The TV station noted that this is the first occasion the Biden Administration has chosen to provide Taiwan a sizable amount of military aid from the US’s own defense arsenal.
