Over 700 Myanmar nationals trespassed to India’s Manipur in 2 days

Up to 718 citizens of Myanmar, including 301 children, crossed into the Indian state of Manipur without the necessary travel documentation.

Concerns about border security were raised by the incident, which took place between July 22 and 23 over the course of barely two days.

The Manipur government has acted to eject the citizens of Myanmar as soon as the report was released.

Manipur Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi said: “The state government has sought a detailed report from Assam Rifles Authority to clarify on the facts and compelling circumstances, as to why and how these 718 Myanmar nationals were allowed to enter into India in Chandel District without proper travel documents.”

“The authorities have provided strict advice to immediately push back these 718 illegal Myanmar nationals,” he said.

He also added: “The state government had previously directed the border guarding force to take strict action to prevent the entry of Myanmar nationals into Manipur without valid visa or travel documents. This directive aligns with the instructions of the Indian Home Affairs Ministry.”

The Assam Rifles informed the deputy commissioner of Chandel district that on Sunday, 718 new refugees entered Manipur through Chandel district by crossing the Indo-Myanmar border. The inflow came as a result of the ongoing fighting in Khampat, Myanmar.

The deputy commissioner and superintendent of the Chandel District police have been instructed to supervise the implementation of the aforementioned steps and to keep biometric and photographic records of all such individuals.

A fake news story that misrepresented an incident in the state of Manipur by misrepresenting a video of a woman being killed by armed men in Myanmar has been reported by the Manipur police.

The police said that they are working to apprehend people distributing false information and instigating riots using the widely shared video.
