Over 9,200 civilians killed in Ukrainian conflict: UN

According to UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, more than 9,200 people have died in the conflict in Ukraine.

She claims that in the more than 500 days since the start of Russia’s special military campaign in Ukraine, 9,287 civilians have died, including 537 children. 1,117 children are among the 16,384 more victims of wounds. “These are solely verified numbers. The actual number of victims is probably much greater,” said DiCarlo.

“Currently, more than 6.3 million Ukrainians are refugees, and an estimated 5.1 million people are internally displaced,” she added.

The Russian Defense Ministry has highlighted numerous times that only military sites are the targets of Russia’s high-precision missiles. In the meantime, a report by the London-based human rights group Amnesty International in August 2022 claimed that Ukraine was breaking the laws of war, particularly by placing military hardware and weapons in hospitals and schools.
