Philippine ferry with 65 passengers catches fire, no casualties

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported that a ferry carrying 65 persons caught fire early on Sunday morning off Bohol province in the central Philippines.

According to PCG spokesperson Armando Balilo, the M/V Esperanza Star caught fire off Panglao Island at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time (2030 GMT).

There were no casualties in the collision, according to the PCG station in Cebu City, which spoke to Xinhua. The PCG is investigating what started the fire.

In the archipelago nation of the Philippines in Southeast Asia, ferry accidents are frequent.
