Singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has been taken to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
At around 10:45 a.m. today, Saturday, DMP’s additional commissioner (detective) Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid informed Prothom Alo that Noble’s wife had filed a complaint against him.
Noble was sued in a case, and he will be questioned, according to the official.
A DB official revealed to The Business Standard while requesting anonymity that the musician was escorted to the Dhaka DB office for questioning about a case filed for fraud and a complaint lodged by his wife.
According to sources, the case was filed with the Motijheel police station last week when the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa-famous singer failed to appear at a scheduled performance.
According to reports, the case was filed on May 16 by Md Shafayet Islam, a former student of Shariatpur’s Bhedarganj Headquarter Pilot Govt High School.
The following day, a Dhaka court took cognizance of the case and ordered the relevant agencies to present an inquiry report by July 9th.
Sowmik, the singer’s brother, stated that they opted not to attend the Shariatpur event after receiving an unknown call instructing them not to travel there during the ongoing SSC exam.
This is not, however, the singer’s first run-in with scandal.
Noble was served with a court notice last year for making derogatory statements about the author of the Bangladeshi national anthem, Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
In 2019, the singer finished second in the West Bengal TV reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and received the “Viewer’s Choice” award for his impressive interpretations of fan favorites from James and Ayub Bachchu.
