From Sudan’s war zone, 176 more Bangladeshis reach Jeddah

On Wednesday afternoon, Sudan’s Badr Airlines flew 176 Bangladeshi nationals from conflict-torn Sudan to Jeddah Airport.

According to a news release from the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia, the Bangladeshis were welcomed by Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia, and Mohammad Nazmul Haque, Consul General of Bangladesh in Jeddah.

Two further planes of the same airline are set to convey 302 more Bangladeshi nationals tonight, with another 74 arriving in Jeddah on Thursday night, according to the press release.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight will take 52 Bangladeshis from Sudan to Dhaka at 1 am (local time in Saudi Arabia) from Jeddah Airport. The press release also said that on Thursday, 130 people will fly back to their country by Qatar Airlines and 238 by Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Medina.

The rest will go home as soon as possible on different flights. The Jeddah Bangladesh International School’s English section has arranged for the Bangladeshis to have a place to rest, food and necessary medical care.

Earlier that day, on May 8, 136 Bangladeshi nationals returned from Sudan via Jeddah.

According to the press release, approximately 1,500 Bangladeshi people living in Sudan and can register to return home, following which they would be taken back in stages.
