Price of broiler chicken reduced by Tk100 per KG

The Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP), AHM Shafiquzzaman, announced today that the price of broiler chicken has been reduced by Taka 100 per kilogram. This reduction was achieved through the Directorate’s countrywide drive and vigilance efforts. Shafiquzzaman further claimed that the market for essential commodities has remained stable throughout the current year.

In an interview with BSS, Shafiquzzaman explained that the price of broiler chicken had risen sharply, with a selling price of Taka 280 per kg. In response, the DNCRP conducted drives, held discussions with business people, and implemented various initiatives. These efforts resulted in broiler chicken now being sold at Taka 180 per kg.

He stated that the Directorate has been conducting drives in different parts of the country every day, and that this type of drive would continue throughout this month to keep the kitchen market stable. He claimed that the market for necessities stays stable during the holy month of Ramadan.

The DNCRP director general pleaded with valued customers to refrain from “panic buying,” saying that doing so would undermine market stability.

He advised consumers to file a report with the directorate if they become the victim of fraud, adding that each complaint would be subject to hearing.

The director general stated that they would meet with the business community on Thursday to ensure that such an incident could not happen this time around in reference to the accusation of selling clothes at increased prices through changing the tag or sticker. Additionally, he issued a warning that serious consequences would follow if the accusation against any company or individual turned out to be true.

It should be noted that the DNCRP recently met with four major corporations, including Kazi Farms Ltd., CP Bangladesh, Aftab Multipurpose Farms Ltd., and Paragon Poultry and Hatchery Ltd., in response to an unusual price increase for broiler chicken. The companies stated that they would lower the price of chicken during the meeting. Following that, the cost of chicken at the store level was decreased.
