Rohingya leader shot dead at Cox’s Bazar camp

On Wednesday morning, a senior majhi—a Rohingya leader—was assassinated at a camp in Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhiya upazila.

Syed Hossain, also known as Kala Bodda, was killed. He lived in the Kutupalong 2 (east) settlement.

Syed Hossain was fatally shot by a group of armed men who are thought to be Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) insurgents when he left his home in the morning, according to the Deputy Inspector General of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Syed Harunur Rashid.

He added that the cops were looking for and apprehending the offenders.

Ali Hossain, a camp inhabitant, claimed that Arsa was to blame for the slaying.

He claimed that Syed Hossain had consistently spoken out against Arsa’s actions.

“Criminal groups have become active again in the camps, and killings are happening one after another as a result. Camp residents are passing their days in fear because of this.”
