Bangladesh welcomes Ajay Banga as new World Bank group President-designate

As a sign of the long-standing friendship and collaboration between Dhaka and Washington, Bangladesh has supported Ajay Banga, the U.S. candidate for president of the World Bank Group.

Bangladesh thinks Banga’s extensive experience will benefit the World Bank Group’s efforts and future, according to a press statement from the foreign ministry issued here today.

“Bangladesh looks forward to working closely with Mr. Banga as the future President of the World Bank Group, with a view to further taking forward the mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and the World Bank, as well as to enhance World Bank’s contribution at the global level,” said the release.

It was added that the World Bank is essential to the socioeconomic growth of many developing nations, including Bangladesh.
