Margot Robbie’s first look as Barbie

Fans of the popular doll, Barbie, who turned 63 this year, have gotten a sneak preview of her much anticipated big-screen debut.

Warner Bros. unveiled the trailer for the movie on Friday. Margot Robbie, who played the controversial doll in Suicide Squad, plays the doll in this movie.

“Since the beginning of time, since the first little girl ever existed, there have been dolls. But the dolls were always and forever baby dolls. Until …,” says a narrator as girls are shown playing with dolls in a scene reminiscent of the opening of Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 1968 movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The girls start destroying their outmoded dolls as a huge Barbie comes wearing the striped swimsuit initially shown when Mattel introduced the toy in 1959.

Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, and other movie stars are briefly glimpsed as the action shifts to Barbie’s all-pink, vibrant environment.

The Barbie movie is scheduled on July 21, 2023. This year’s shooting started in London and ended in July.
