ICESCO confirms SM Shaikat as Youth Peace Ambassador

The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) emanated educational, scientific, and cultural agency ICESCO has nominated SERAC-Bangladesh’s Executive Director SM Shaikat as its youth peace ambassador in Bangladesh for his outstanding contribution in the promotion of peace, democracy and civic participation among youths at national, international, and the UN spaces. The ICESCO headquarter confirmed this via an official letter on November 8.

SM Shaikat has been actively leading works around health, education, human rights, democracy, and social peace and harmony for over 12 years. He received The Asia Young Leader for Democracy award in 2015 and worked as the Asia-Pacific Youth Advisor for UN-Habitat for years. Confirming this nomination, Shaikat believes that peaceful social coexistence, preventing and countering violent extremism, and respecting opinion and belief of others are equally important for the youth of Bangladesh as for other countries. This ambassadorship will encourage our works in this sector and attract more young people to actively join such activities in the coming days.
