veteran politician from India, Mulayam Singh Yadav passes away

Mulayam Singh Yadav, a seasoned Indian politician and the founder of the Samajwadi Party (SP), passed away this morning at the Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, which is 29 kilometers away. He was 82.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, the three times-elected chief minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has been in serious condition for days and was receiving life-saving medication at the hospital.

“My respected father and everyone’s Neta-ji has died, “The Samajwadi Party quoted Mulayam Singh’s son Akhilesh Yadav as saying.

The government of Uttar Pradesh has declared a three-day period of mourning in memory of Mulayam Singh Yadav, a renowned politician and supporter of the empowerment of lower castes.

In 1992, he established the caste-based Samajwadi Party and grew its network throughout Uttar Pradesh and other regions of north India.

The death of Mulayam Singh Yadav was mourned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers of various Indian states, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
