Hong Kong shares began sharply lower on Wednesday morning

Hong Kong shares began sharply lower on Wednesday morning, extending their losing streak into a fifth day following another drop on Wall Street, on fears central banks will continue to ramp up interest rates for some time to quell inflation.

The Hang Seng Index sank 1.49 percent, or 286.86 points, to 18,915.87, reports BSS.

The Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.35 percent, or 11.31 points, to 3,232.14, while the Shenzhen Composite Index on China’s second exchange lost 0.40 percent, or 8.35 points, to 2,104.92.
