Sreemangal hillside collapse claims the lives of four women

At Sreemangal in Moulvibazar, four ladies were killed when soil they were extracting from a hilltop of a tea garden crashed on them.

Around 11:00am on Friday, the event happened in the Lakkhichhara Tea Garden in the Kalighat Union.

Pranesh Goala, the chairman of the Kalighat Union Parishad (UP), corroborated the information.

Hiramoni Bhoumik, 34; Purnima Bhoumik, 23; Radha Bhoumik, 34; and Rina Bhoumik, 23 are the deceased. They are all Lakkhichhara Tea Garden residents.

Six women went to a hilltop of the tea garden on Friday at 11:00am to get soil to plaster their homes, according to Shikti Kanda, a member of the Lakkhichhara tea garden panchayat committee, who spoke to media.

Four people died instantly when a large piece of earth fell on them during the soil extraction process.

The Sreemangal Upazila Health Complex received four bodies.

Ali Razib Mahmud, the Sreemangal upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), promised to take action to help the families of the deceased.
