Popp explodes for Germany after ending Euro woe

Due to injury, Alexandra Popp was doomed to never compete at a European Championship, but the seasoned attacker is now guiding Germany’s bid to win the women’s game at Euro 2022.

Olympic gold medalist and Champions League champion at the club level with Wolfsburg, the 31-year-illustrious old’s career had been marred by the Euro until he arrived in England a few weeks ago.

Her desire to play despite ankle ligament damage in Wolfsburg’s Champions League victory against Lyon destroyed her prospects of competing at Euro 2013.

Four years later, Popp’s inclusion in the squad for Euro 2017 was hindered by a knee problem.

What will likely be her last opportunity to be named a European champion at the international level was in danger of being derailed by additional injury woes.

Popp just made a comeback in March after undergoing two additional knee surgeries to repair her meniscus over the previous 15 months.
