BBC to resume English-language reporting from Russia

The BBC announced on Tuesday that it would resume English-language transmission from Russia as of Tuesday evening, after halting coverage while it investigated new media legislation.

“After careful deliberation, we have decided to resume English-language reporting from Russia this evening after it was temporarily suspended at the end of last week,” it added.

On Friday, it halted the work of its news reporters and support employees in Russia after legislation was approved making spreading “fake” or “false” news about the Kremlin’s conflict in Ukraine a criminal offense.

The BBC said it has “examined the consequences” of the bill and that it will resume English language reporting from Tuesday evening after “careful deliberation.”

“We have examined the ramifications of the new legislation with the urgent need to report from inside Russia,” the BBC stated in a statement. We have chosen to restart English language reporting from Russia this evening, after it was temporarily discontinued at the end of last week, after careful consideration.
