The IOC announced Monday that Peng Shuai met with Olympic leader Thomas Bach at the Beijing Winter Games, while US skier Mikaela Shiffrin was bitterly disappointed in her first shot at gold in China.
Tennis star Peng, who aroused international attention in November when she went silent after alleging that a top Chinese politician coerced her into sex, dined with Bach on Saturday and watched curling, according to the International Olympic Committee.
Nearly three weeks after making her accusation, Peng resurfaced in public and eventually withdrew it, claiming that her online statements had been taken out of context. But her safety and well-being remained a concern.
Separately, Peng reiterated her denial in an interview with French sports daily L’Equipe published Monday.
