India seeks FBCCI’s cooperation in boosting bilateral trade

Vikram K Doraiswami, India’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, today solicited the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s (FBCCI) collaboration to enhance bilateral trade between the two nations.

According to a news statement, the Indian envoy indicated interest while paid a courtesy call on FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin at FBCCI in the city.

Vikram K Doraiswami attended the meeting with the goal of improving trade and investment links with Bangladesh in the fields of logistics, food processing, autos, and apparel.

Md Jashim Uddin said that the development of the logistics sector is the prime agenda of FBCCI.

“The apex trade body is working to submit a 12-year plan to the government for the development of the logistics,” he added.

In terms of India’s trading potential with Bangladesh, he believes India will soon become a key supplier of yarn and cotton to the garment sector.

The FBCCI chief cited some of the Indian companies functioning in Bangladesh and stated that they are all doing well.

As a result, he continued, other Indian entrepreneurs’ investments in Bangladesh have a big potential to be profitable.

To increase bilateral trade, Md Jashim Uddin urged for the improvement of infrastructure in the Indian section of the land ports.

He claims that bad infrastructure stymies bilateral trade because many Bangladeshi items are unable to be exported due to a lack of facilities at Indian ports.

The meeting was attended by FBCCI Senior Vice President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Vice President Md Habib Ullah Dawn, directors Rejaul Kariem Rejnu, Bijoy Kumar Kejriwal, Md. Shah Jalal, Mohammed Bazlur Rahman, Dr Joshodha Jibon Deb Nath, CIP, Priti Chakraborty, and Secretary General Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque.
