In an attack in Qara Salem village in northern Iraq, Islamic State militants murdered four Peshmerga troops and a civilian, as well as injuring six others, according to security sources.
In a statement, the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs stated that the attack resulted in casualties, but did not specify how many.
Islamic State forces were adopting hit-and-run tactics in night strikes on Peshmerga strongholds, according to one Peshmerga colonel.
“They avoid holding the ground for longer time … More reinforcement forces were dispatched to the area to prevent further attacks,” the colonel said.
According to an Iraqi military source, Iraqi security forces have been dispatched to the area to assist the Peshmerga.
Security sources told Reuters on Sunday that the terrorist group also took over Luhaiban village in northern Iraq a day after invading it. Iraqi authorities did not respond to a request for comment right away.
