World Soil Day to be observed tomorrow

Tomorrow, the country, as well as the rest of the world, will commemorate World Soil Day-2021, which emphasizes the importance of soil conservation and care.

“Halt soil salinization, enhance soil productivity” is the topic of this year’s World Soil Day.

Every year on December 5, World Soil Day is commemorated to raise awareness about the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the long-term management of soil resources.

On the eve of the day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent separate messages wishing all of the World Soil Day-2021 initiatives success.

President Abdul Hamid praised the suggestion of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Soil Resources Development Institute to commemorate ‘World Soil Day-2021’ on December 5 as it is done every year.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that when sea levels rise owing to climate change, a large part of Bangladesh will be affected by salinity, which will have a negative impact on coastal crop development.

She added the problem of soil salinity has become a worry of agricultural specialists all over the world, including Bangladesh, because it disrupts regular crop production.
