Venezuela received more than 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccinations from the COVAX program on Sunday, bringing the country closer to its target of vaccinating 70% of the population.
On Sunday, Venezuelan Health Minister Carlos Alvarado greeted the arrival of 2,594,000 vaccination doses at Caracas’ Maiquetia International Airport.
This is the second consignment of vaccines from COVAX to arrive in Venezuela, and Alvarado was on hand to collect it alongside representatives from UNICEF and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
Venezuela is expected to reach the goal set by President Nicolas Maduro, which is to vaccinate 70% of the population, thanks to the current shipment.
In Venezuela, a total of 382,266 COVID-19 cases have been reported, with 4,606 deaths.
