Govt orders 75m doses Chinese Sinopharm vaccine

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen announced today that the government has placed an order for 75 million doses of the Chinese Sinopharm COVID vaccine, with 15 million doses already paid for.

He told the reporters at the State Guest House Padma in the capital, “We ordered 75 million doses Sinopharm (vaccine)… and we have already sent money for 15 million doses out of them.”

Apart from purchasing the vaccine, the foreign minister stated that under the COVAX framework, Dhaka will receive 34 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine next week and one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine later this month.

Bangladesh will also receive six million more doses of Pfizer vaccine under the COVAX program in the first week of September, he added.

COVAX is a global cooperation led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, with the goal of ensuring equal access to Covid-19 vaccinations.
