‘Nomadland’ director Chloe Zhao to sit on Venice film jury

The organizers of the 2018 Venice Film Festival announced Wednesday that director Chloe Zhao, who won best film at the Academy Awards this year for “Nomadland,” will participate on the jury.

Bong Joon Ho, the South Korean director whose film “Parasite” won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2019, will serve as jury president for the biennial international festival, which will take place from September 1 to 11 on the glistening island of Lido.

Zhao, who was born in China but now calls the United States home, won Venice’s top prize for the outstanding film last year with “Nomadland,” then went on to win a slew of Oscars this year, including best director and best picture.

The Venice jury included Saverio Costanzo of Italy and Alexander Nanau of Romania, as well as British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, Belgian-French actress Virginie Efira, and Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.

The Venice Film Festival, along with Cannes and Berlin, is one of the most prestigious in the world.
