China to send next Sinopharm vaccine consignment as gift

Chinese Embassy here today confirmed Beijing will send the second consignment of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines as part of gifts to Bangladesh by June 13.

“600,000 vaccines as gifts by the Chinese government are ready for delivery by 13th of June,” Hualong Yan, deputy chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka said here.

At the request of Bangladesh foreign minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen, On May 22, his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi announced that China has decided to provide 6 lakh more COVID-19 vaccine doses to Bangladesh as the second batch of gifts.

The Chinese mission here believed that the arrival of the second batch of Chinese gift vaccines will definitely help the Bangladeshi government and people build a strong line of defence against the epidemic.

On May 12, China handed over the first batch of five lakh doses of its Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift while Dhaka is keeping its efforts globally to access enough inoculation.

Meanwhile, Dhaka has almost completed the process of purchasing 1.5 crore doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China commercially.
