5 Turkish soldiers killed in rocket attack in Syria

One Turkish soldier was killed and four others were injured in a rocket attack on Idlib in Syria. The casualties came after a rocket attack on a logistics fleet on Monday (May 10th). Reuters quoted the Turkish Defense Ministry as saying.

The Turkish Defense Ministry said Turkey had identified the site of the attack. However, it was not immediately clear who carried out the attack.

Turkey wants to see the border areas of Idlib province as safe areas.

A large number of people have fled Syria’s 10-year war and taken refuge in Turkey. Turkey says it has no place to shelter new immigrants. They want people displaced by the war in Syria not to enter Turkey but to remain in Syrian territory.

Turkey signed an agreement with Russia in 2016 to protect them. As a result, Turkish troops set up observation posts outside Idlib.

Turkey also supports a section of Bashar al-Assad’s rebels based in Idlib.
