Algerian author Said Djabelkhir has been sentenced for insulting religion

Popular Algerian writer Said Djabelkhir has been sentenced to three years in prison for insulting Islam. However, on Thursday, he was released on bail.

The 53-year-old writer expressed his determination to fight for ‘freedom of thought’ in the court premises. He said he would appeal against the verdict in the high court.

Recently, 6 lawyers and one novelist filed a case against 3 of his Facebook posts.

In an article posted in January, Said Djabelkhir said the practice of animal sacrifice on Eid-ul-Azha has been going on for a long time since the establishment of Islam. His claim is that there is no specific hadith evidence in this regard. He also condemned the practice of underage marriage in some Muslim societies.
