India has never had a ‘NATO mentality’: Jayashankar

Indian Foreign Minister S Jayashankar has said that the Quad or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue is not an “Asian NATO” and India has never had a “NATO mentality”. He added that in the changed global system, like-minded countries are coming together to form alliances.

Jayashankar made the remarks at the Raisina Dialogue on Monday (April 19th), where he spoke with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne.

Jayashankar further said that the Indo-Pacific Strategic Construction would not only strengthen the Cold War but also bring it to an end.

“I can’t let anyone else veto what I’m going to discuss, who I’m talking to, how much I’m contributing to the world,” he added. This is what my country wants. India has never had such a NATO mentality. If anyone in Asia has this mentality, it is from another country or region, not India.

In addition to its diplomatic activities, the informal alliance will increase its military and naval support and take care of freedom of movement, according to a report by the Indian news agency ANI.
