The PM of Bangladesh will provide financial assistance to 3.6 million families

The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said this on Sunday (April 18). He said the Prime Minister would provide financial assistance of BDT 2,500 and BDT 5,000 per capita to Corona and 3.6 million families affected by the natural calamity.

According to the concerned sources, out of 30 lakh, 94 thousand 249 hectares of croplands in 36 districts of the country, 10 thousand 301 hectares of croplands have been completely and 59 thousand 328 hectares of croplands have been partially damaged due to strong winds, hailstorms and cyclones on April 4. It has been seen that 1 lakh farmers have been directly affected by this.

The Ministry of Agriculture has recommended providing financial assistance at the rate of Tk 5,000 per person to these unemployed and affected farmers as a result of COVID-19. 50 crore will be required for this.

The Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a list of affected farmers (name, national identity card number, and mobile number). However, if the list to be prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture is final, the amount required may be more or less.

Sources further said that in the last 2019-20 financial year, cash assistance was provided to about 35 lakh families by checking and sorting out 5 million families affected by the Corona in Mujib. On May 12 last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the GTP system to provide cash assistance to the direct victims.

This time, the provision of cash assistance can be made from the funds allocated in the revised budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 under the budget of the Finance Department for the Corona Virus Outbreak Fund.

It is to be noted here that if the proposal is considered, in the light of previous experience, the financial assistance can be paid directly to those included in the list stored in the database of the Finance Department in a very short time.
