Prison attacks in Nigeria, more than 1,600 prisoners escape

More than 1,700 prisoners have escaped from a Nigerian prison. The tragedy took place in the town of Wari on Monday.

Authorities say several assailants arrived at the jail in pick-ups and buses. They attacked with heavy weapons and explosives.

The bomb exploded and fell inside. They had rocket grenades, machine guns, rifles and huge quantities of ammunition. They broke down the prison door with great violence. Then the prisoners came out.

Meanwhile, President Muhammad Buhari called the incident a terrorist attack. Police are blaming the banned separatist group Biafra. However, the group has denied responsibility.
