A discussion meeting was held on the occasion of IWD in Bandarban

A conference was organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Tuesday 23rd March at 12 pm in the conference room of Ananya Kallyan Sangathon in Bandarban Sadar.

Deputy Commissioner of Bandarban Hill District Yasmin Parveen Tibriji was present as the Chief Guest at the meeting. Milton Muhuri, Deputy Director, Department of Social Services, Saifuddin Mohammad Hassan Ali, Deputy Director, Department of Youth Development, Deputy Director, Department of Women’s Affairs Atia Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Kayesur Rahman. GRAUS’s Chairperson Monthuiching Marma gave a welcome speech at the meeting, which was held under the theme “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world “.

The meeting was chaired by Dawnai Prue Naly, Executive Director of Ananya Kallyan Sanghathon. Among others, Sumit Banik, Master Trainer of Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha, Tahzingdong’s Project Director, Md. Zia Uddin, AKS’s Project Director Dinendra Tripura, Project Coordinator Ramesh Chandra Tanchangya and, Journalist Kaushik Das, Online news Portal Kholachokh’s representative S. Bikash Chakma, Md. Juel, Representatives of project mentors, club members, Karbari, and mothers including Project Officers, Staff were present at the meeting. AKS Executive Committee Member Hosne Ara Khanam and GRAUS’s Project Coordinator Sabuj Chakma have facilitated the session. Project Co-ordinator, AKS Myamesing Marma shared outlined the activities of the OLHF project. Distinguished guests spoke on the significance of International Women’s Day and the activities of the OLHF project.

Chief Guest of the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parveen Tibriji said, “Women have been able to come to today’s position because women like Begum Rokeya have protested and struggled. The picture of violence against women in society has to be changed. That’s why a change of mindset is very important. The distorted mentality towards women in the society that we are witnessing is very frustrating. Attitudes towards women need to change. In this case, from the grassroots level, everyone should actively participate and come forward responsibly, so everyone has no alternative to work collectively and actively.

Mentioned that, for the overall empowerment of adolescent girls and women of CHT, Simavi Netherlands, and Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) in collaboration with Ananya Kallyan Sangathon, GRAUS, Tahzingdong has been implementing this project in Bandarban Hill District since 2019 and the project activities will continue till 2023.
